Holy invitation on Sunday of Thomas in Mykonos: Divine Liturgy to the Patron Saint Artemios and final veneration of the holy relic of Saint George.
Konstantina Gridella writes – Proto-Eagle
Holy invitation of resurrected mysticism addresses the High Priestly Commissioner of Delos and Mykonos to the philochristian people. Antipasto Sunday, the historic Temple of the Patron Saint becomes a center of worship, offering the last opportunity to worship the holy relic of Agios Georgios.
Eight days after ontological explosion of Resurrection, our Holy Church is called to feel the truth of the empty Monument, experiencing the experience of the Apostle Thomas. At this very operational juncture, on Sunday of Thomas, 19 April 2026, Mykonos is getting ready to experience its own, unique "touching" of aunt Haritos, through an event of high ecclesiastical and theological symbolism.
The Most Reverend Elder Fr.. Petros Maragos, High Priest Commissioner of Delos and Mykonos, with a sense of deep pastoral responsibility, addresses a thermo, trumpet call to fellow Mykonians and pious visitors to the island. He invites them to participate in the Divine Liturgy (start time 8:00 a.m.) which will be executed in the feronym, centuries-old Holy Temple of Saint Artemios the Great Martyr, Patron Saint of Mykonos, in the heart of the traditional settlement of Chora.
The meeting of the Great Martyrs
This particular one Eucharistic Gathering it is not just the Sunday liturgical routine, but it assumes historical dimensions. In the sacred space of the Patron Saint, will take place a mental one, spiritual meeting of two giants of the Faith, of two military High Martyrs: of the host Agios Artemios and the guest Agios Georgios.
On this day, the Temple of the Patron Saint will host the holy relic for the last day – fragment of Saint Glorious Great Martyr George the Trophy Bearer, completing one cycle of true spiritual rebirth for the island. It is the last chance for them friendly Mykonians and pious visitors of the island to come, to kneel and to draw strength from martyrdom, before it makes its way back.
A supreme act of Ecclesiastical society
The arrival and stay of the holy relic from the historical parish of Pialia Trikala in Mykonos constitutes the definition of liturgical and ecclesiastical society. This precious spiritual treasure, which was cut for the sanctification and support of the people, he practically transferred the blessed embrace of mainland Greece to the deep blue waters of the Aegean.
As dictated by the Orthodox ethos and church order, this holy metaphor could not be realized without it regular permission and the high blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Trikki, Gardikiou & Pylis Mr. Chrysostom. It is about a Hierarch who, distinguished throughout time for his deep sense of ecclesiastical unity and pan-Orthodox cohesion, approved the pleading request of the local Church of Mykonos. With this decision of his, amply proved to the fullness of the Church that the grace of the Saints knows no borders and automatically abolishes geographical boundaries.
He placed this precious treasure of Faith in his hands, bringing the blessing of the Trophy Bearer to Mykonos, the Most Reverend Protopresbyter Fr. Alexandros Angelopoulos.
Holy calling
Next Thomas Sunday, the all-white Church of Agios Artemios (as beautifully captured in the holiday invitation they released) is converted in an ark of sanctification. Fr. Petros Maragos invites everyone to attend, in order that the departure of the holy relic of Agios Georgios to be done with due honors, amid rising hymns and true prayer.
Let no one miss this functional magnificence. Where the presence of the Saints attests to the great and joyous message:
Christ is Risen!
