After the discharge he received this afternoon from the "Evangelismos" Hospital, to which he had been admitted on Thursday morning 19 November, the Archbishop of Athens and all of Greece Ieronymos arrived at his home inside the Archdiocese of Athens, where it will remain for the next period of time, monitored by his treating physicians.
The Archbishop made the following statement:
"It simply came to our notice then, in the Chapel of St. Paul in the Archdiocese of Athens, a candle for all Greeks and for all Greek women and for all our fellow human beings, who give their personal fight against this dangerous and insidious enemy. An enemy that we will overcome with the help of God and Science.
I want everyone to know that I pray for everyone at all times, for everyone without exception, why, beyond and beyond what each of us is and what he believes in and if he believes, we are all humans, strong and weak at the same time, creatures, Nevertheless, all of the Creator.
I want everyone to know that at every moment on their headrests and by their side are the true heroes of this great ordeal for our Homeland and for the whole Universe. Our doctors and nurses and all the staff of our hospitals, who sacrifice every sense of their ego to protect health and save the lives of us all, who forget that they exist in order for us to exist. No conversation is enough, no reason is enough, to capture what, transcending human boundaries, they do for us their fellow human beings.
I do not want, Nevertheless, to hide from you that during my own ordeal I was very scared and in a lot of pain, like all people. Περνώντας τη θύρα του ‘’Ευαγγελισμού”, I was prepared for everything and, as a clergyman, more familiar with the idea we all reject, that we will not return home, that we will not hug our loved ones again, that we will not give and we will not accept love. I left myself in the hands of God and my doctors and made my Cross with Faith in my Creator. It was not the first time for me, after all…
From the bottom of my heart I thank everyone who stood by me with their prayers and messages. It was a balm for the very difficult hours I spent. Thank you to all our faithful People, the clergy and the Hierarchs, and, especially, my treating doctors, Mrs.. Anastasia Kotanidou, Mr. Sotiri Tsiodra and the Elder-doctor Paraskevi Roussou. I am deeply grateful to everyone.
And I warmly ask you all once again: reverently follow the rules and measures of the competent health authorities of the State. Limit yourself, discipline and protect, with your attitude and your behavior, the health and life of you and your loved ones and all our fellow human beings.
