Then Jesus addressed the tree and said : "Fruit from you is born in the century and the fig tree withered dry" and the fig tree at the same time dried and for’ this is called a cursed fig or a dried fig. The story of the barren fig tree symbolizes the Synagogue of the Jews of the day and the life of the seemingly virtuous people of Israel, but practically fruitless from good works.
