Reverend Dorotheus II: Waiting for the Miracle

“Cowards, Fatal and Abuloi adama, we are waiting, maybe, some mystery”
There could not be a more apt description of those who have given up any active stance in life, from this well-known verse of Varnalis!……

The poet, sure, placed on a social level, targeting all those, who deal with situations passively, their very lives, pinning all hope for improvement and change on a miracle!
Using, in fact, this word of metaphysical content and given his atheistic ideology, it is like saying that nothing can be done, without the active cooperation and competitive participation of man…
The same,Nevertheless, and proportionally, also applies to the area of the miracle par excellence, not only because we are all brothers as children of the same God the Father, the establishment and consolidation of Ovia, this same one, it is a miracle!
It is characterized as a miracle, generally, each event, which is possible to consider “inexplicable”, with the established ones, scientifically acceptable, criteria, a strange and unexpected event, to which a positive divine intervention is attributed.
According to the Christian understanding, especially, miracle is the result of divine energy to temporarily suspend the operation of natural laws, which God himself set in the universe, to achieve a goal, which only He knows, according to and: “Where God wills, defeated by class nature”.
But, this perception greatly narrows the deepest content of the concept "miracle", since it limits it only to cases, which are perceived through the senses and degrades it, often, in an event of temporary sensation, just as it follows from the etymology of the word, which is derived from the word “wonderful”, this, that is, which is "seen", one sees and causes admiration and wonder!
Alongside, the finding that the presence on earth cannot be ignored, action and teaching of God incarnate, but also of His Apostles and Saints is inextricably linked with the performance of all kinds of miracles.
So many miracles, in fact, so that they are not few, who, always and more so today, they see the Church as a "religion", only to comfort us in our sorrows, to pray for our health, to heal us, sometimes, by miracles the incurable diseases, to help us as a kind of psychotherapist in psychological impasses, to answer questions about our afterlife, treating it as a kind of "remedial center" for the satisfaction of "religious" needs.
It's about a mindset, which, essentially, it abolishes the salvific message of the Church and at the same time turns the relationship between man and God into a form of "transaction", on the outcome of which his faith in God depends…
We forget, Nevertheless, that the miracle presupposes, it does not add faith!
We forget that the miracle, any one, however great it may appear in the eyes of men, in the end it does not remove physical necessity, it just suspends her for a while!
It escapes us that the purpose of every miracle is not to temporarily gain our physical health, nor delay our biological death more or less, but to know better and get closer to God!
A miracle is not so much or only the impressive intervention of God in our daily life, but mainly and more or implicit intervention of God in our soul!
This is an intervention, which transcends the limits and conditions of present life, it changes man internally and abolishes death essentially!
That's all, Nevertheless, miracles are not seen, they don't impress, they are not occasions for enthusiastic events…
Is, Nevertheless, the biggest and hardest,as they require the active cooperation of man, which leads to the creation of a new man!
And the main thing, there are many and everyday!
Evidence;
The myriads of believers, who resort to the Theotokos Pilgrimages scattered throughout Greece and, especially, on the holy island of Tinos…
They walk up the avenue of Megalocharis, wet with the tears of thousands of pilgrims, they deposit their bitterness on Her shoulder, the anxieties, the fears, passions, vices, the sins, all their hope and "come down" to their everyday life spiritually relieved, mentally refreshed, morally improved, "other people"!
Why, according to Saint Isaac the Syrian,"Whoever really feels his sins, he is superior to him, who by his prayer raises the dead. Whoever deserves to see his illness, he is superior to him, who claimed to see angels”!
