Something that many people confuse, because of the central festival of the Church of Panagia on the fifteenth of August, is the depiction of the Virgin Mary in this particular icon.
The Icon of the Virgin of Tinos does not depict the Dormition of the Virgin but the Annunciation. It is an icon with a special style which, according to some scholars, is attributed to the Apostle Luke.
But how is the image of the Virgin behind the prayers of the faithful;
This is one of the rarest depictions of the icon of the Virgin of Tinos, without the golden "shirt" that adorns her and the tributes of the faithful that are above it.
This is the image of the Gospel in which they are depicted, on the right the Virgin Mary and on the left the Archangel Gabriel holding the lily.
Above the two faces is depicted the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove.
The icon of the Virgin Mary was found at the spot where Her Church is today, after a vision of Agia Pelagia on 30 January 1823.
By his Royal Decree 1836 the celebration of the Virgin Mary was established in
