Posted on 17/10 in the Government Gazette the Presidential Decree 139/2013, with which the Greek State now officially established October 20, feast of the memory of Saint Artemios the Great Martyr, as a holiday for the Municipality of Mykonos (Mykonos Regional Unit)……..
The declaration of the first public holiday for the island of Mykonos fulfills a decades-old request of the island's residents, as on the 20th of October the memory of the Saint is solemnly celebrated with the participation of all the residents, including litany in other celebrations.
Mykonians consider Saint Artemios their patron saint and regularly name their children after him. The homonymous church functioned as a parish church for a number of years, while the year 2012 it was completely renovated at the expense of the faithful.

Although there had been fruitless efforts and in the past the proclamation was launched with the 18th of February 2013 relevant request submitted to the Ministry of the Interior by the Vice President of the South Aegean Regional Council and Regional Councilor of the Mykonos Unit, K. Konstantinos Koukas, with the support and guidance of the Metropolitan of Syros, Of Tinos & Mykonos and Dorotheou II.
The request of the Mykonians received an immediate and positive response from the then responsible Minister of the Interior, Mr.. Euripides Stylianides, who on April 25 2013 in a meeting with Mr. Kouka signed the relevant decision.
Most, after the signing of the relevant Decree by the President of the Republic Mr. Karolos Papoulias and the co-competent Ministers, the decision was posted today in DIAUGIA by the Ministry of the Interior and was received with great joy in Mykonos.
