Gospel Reading – Gospel Reading
The Reading is from the Gospel According to Matthew – According to Mark XVI(16) 1-8
Man, the host, who planted a vineyard and fenced it and dug up flax in it and built a tower, and issued him farmers, and he died. when the time of the fruits did not come, he sent his servants to the husbandmen to receive his fruits. and when the farmers took his slaves they beat him, if they did not extend, he was not stoned. again he sent other servants more than the first, and they bewitched them likewise. and afterwards he sent his son to them, saying: take my son. and the farmers seeing his son said to themselves, This is the heir; see we obtain him and make his inheritance. and having received him, they went out of the vineyard, and went away. when the master of the vineyard came, what will happen to those farmers; they say this: evil evil destroy them, and the vineyard is given to other farmers, who will bear fruit in these times. The parable of the vineyard or the bad farmers, Christ said it in Jerusalem, addressing the spiritual leaders of Israel, a few days before the Crucifixion of the Passion, when they questioned his divine authority. With the powerful images of the parable, but also with demonstrative speech, God's magnificent love for the world is displayed, where it is his creation.
We are impressed by the fact that divine love remains undiminished despite the hostile attitude of men (bad farmers) where they manage his work. In the Gospel text, the historical verification of what is said is obvious. Here is seen the failure of the wealthy people to respond to God's call and prepare the world for the coming Messiah.
"Sir, Lord, look down from heaven and see and visit this vine and shape it which Your right hand planted"
His Eminence Fr. Petros Maragos, in the inspired sermon addressing the faithful he mentioned……..
