The Dormition of our Most Holy Lady the Theotokos and Ever Virgin Mary
"How awesome is this place! This is not the house of God and this is the gate of heaven".
With the appropriate order and propriety it was celebrated in Mykonos and specifically in the celebratory Holy Metropolitan Church of Megali Panagia, in this Country in the area of Kato Mylon, the so-called "Summer Easter", the Feast of the Dormition and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin and Immortal Mary.

The Solemn Divine Liturgy was performed on the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Magali Panagia by the Most Reverend Protopresbyter and High Priest of the Church, Pi. Petros Maragos, flanked by the Protopresbyter Fr. George Kousathanas, with the co-praying presence of Mykonian believers, vacationers and the first bearers who flocked, to commemorate the Dormition of the Virgin, but also her resurrection and transition to the Triune God to live eternally in the Kingdom of Heaven.

In today's Feast of the Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a participation in Christ's victory is revealed to us, against the corrupting forces of sin and death. The funeral of the Virgin with the gathering of the Apostles, it is an image of the hope of liberation from earthly bonds, from the decay and futility of this world, as the hymn writer mentions "as Mother of life, towards life he moved". The feast also reveals to us the divine-human character of Christ. Theotokos and not just Mary is the Mother of God according to the human.

After the end of the Divine Liturgy, the customary procession of the Holy and Ephesian icon of Panagia Pigadiotissa took place, in honor of which our ancestors, they rebuilt the Temple 1616 and the icon of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary donated by Metropolitan Iasiou Anthimos of Mykonos from 1841 in our Holy Church.
