To the pious Christians of our Holy Metropolis
My blessed Christians,
Deeply shocked by the magnitude of the disaster that has befallen the people of Turkey and Syria, First of all, we pray to the Lord, to offer our wintering brothers of neighboring Turkey and our co-religionist Syria patience, power, hope and courage, to face this great calamity!
We pray, also, and for the men of EMAK, who, with a sacrificial attitude, rushed to help the Turkish and Syrian earthquake victims and selflessly help rescue those trapped in the ruins and we hope they return safely!
In the face of this unspeakable disaster, our Church, by decision of the Permanent Holy Synod, decided on the immediate collection of humanitarian aid and its subsequent dispatch, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to the affected areas.
So fatherly we call you and beg you to hurry to help our fellow human beings affected by this Biblical disaster, offering, from Sunday 12 until Sunday 19 February:
1. New bedding [blankets and quilts]
2. Bottled water
3. Long shelf life milk
4. Pasta
5. Rice and
6. 'Legumes
in a place, which the High Priestly Commissioners for each island will indicate to you!
