The Lord told this parable, two people went up to the sanctuary and prayed, the one a Pharisee and the other a publican. the Pharisee stood up to himself, this is what God prayed, I thank you that I am not like the rest of the people, grabs, unjust, adulterers, or even like this publican I fast on the Sabbath, I always tithe what I own. and the tax collector from afar did not want even his eyes to the sky anymore, but they knocked on his chest saying God, be merciful to me a sinner. The first Sunday of the Triod is dedicated to the very instructive parable of the Publican and the Pharisee, whereby the main narrated, in order to teach the theophilic virtue of humility and to adorn the Luciferian arrogance. He taught this parable «προς τινας τους πεποιθότας αφ’ εαυτοίς ότι εισί δίκαιοι, and exhausting others" (Luke 18,9).
