The Theophany of Our Lord: "Today the whole building is lit from above", of Archimandrite Aristarchus Grekas*

The Theophany of Our Lord / God within the historical context reveals himself to man in order to show him his love. Epiphanies in the Old Testament strengthen and guide God's people.

On the occasion of the baptism of our Lord Jesus Christ, the manifestation of the Holy Trinity takes place, it is an epiphany associated with the baptism of the Lord.

The Trinity of God is revealed to humanity by affirming the divinity of Jesus, of the incarnate Son and Word of God, with the testimony "This is my beloved Son.", εν ω ευδόκησα ». The Father blesses and testifies and the Holy Spirit descended on Christ "in the form of a dove", which affirms his divinity.

The incomprehensible mystery of the Holy Trinity is revealed.

"In the Jordan of your baptism, Lord, the revealed worship of the Trinity".

"Today the fallacy is removed, and in the way of our salvation the despot's influence works". From today the error is abolished and the coming of the Despot prepares the way of our salvation.

The coming of Lord Christ opens the way to Heaven, as the Sun of righteousness rose for us. "Today heaven bows down to people, and the Sun of justice shines upon us".

"Today the holy and loud Orthodox festival is celebrated", where a Despot hastens to baptize to raise man high and "and a dance of saints gathers us, and angels after men feast".

"Today the whole building is lit from above". Today the entire building is illuminated from the sky.

Today the creation is blessed and according to Saint Hippolytus of Rome there is a reconciliation of the visible with the invisible, they fill the heavenly ranks with joy, earthly diseases are cured, the incomprehensible become known, and the two currents are reconciled.

Today believers are enlightened with divine light. Today believers are sanctified and know the Triune God in a saving festival in which all creation participates, the heavenly and the earthly.
