Permanent Holy Synod / The Permanent Holy Synod monitors the issue of same-sex marriage and the developments surrounding it.
The decision to monitor the issue of same-sex marriage was taken by the Permanent Holy Synod, which completed its two days' work today, Thursday (14.12.23) under Archbishop Hieronymos.
As stated by the Permanent Holy Synod, "was informed about the issue of the marriage of same-sex couples and decided to monitor the issue and, depending on the developments, to be examined by the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece".

During its Sessions, the I.I.S.:
– He was informed about the text sent by His Excellency the former President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Prokopiou Pavlopoulos, on the subject: "The institutional "testimony" of the Constitution for the cooperation of State and Church in the Games of the Nation" and expressed her satisfaction and thanks.
– He was informed about the issue of the marriage of same-sex couples and decided to monitor the issue and, depending on the developments, to be examined by the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece.
– Decided on the appointment of the Steering Committee of the Ecclesiastical Central Finance Service (E.K.Y.O.) as follows: Καθολικῆς και Ἀποστολικῆς Ἐκκλησίας: Rev. Metropolitan of Serres and Nigritis Mr. Theologian, being replaced by Rev. Metropolitan of Ilios, Acharnon and Petroupoleos etc. Athinagorou, and Members: 1) Rev. Metropolitan of Corinth Mr. Dionysus, being replaced by Rev. Metropolitan of Maroneia and Komotini Mr. Panteleimonos, 2) Rev. Metropolitan of Philippi, Neapolis and Thassos etc. Stephanos, being replaced by Rev. Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania Mr. Damascene, 3) Rev. Metropolitan Fthiotidos Mr. Συμεών, being replaced by Rev. Metropolitan of Peristeri, Mr. Gregory, 4) Panier. Metropolitan Thaumakos Mr. Jacob, Professor of the Holy Monastery of Incorporeal Petrakis, replenished under Panosiol. Archimandrite Mr.. Silouanou Peponakis, Professor of the Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios Mavrommatios Aliartou in Boeotia, with tenure from 15 December 2023 up to 14 December 2026.
The Permanent Holy Synod expresses its pleasure to Rev. Metropolitan of Samos and Ikaria Mr. Pious, as former President of the Steering Committee of E.K.Y.O., as well as to its retired Members, for their fruitful and fruitful ministry during their tenure.
– Decided to rotate disk, during the Christmas Divine Liturgy, in the Holy Temples of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens and the Holy Metropolises of the Church of Greece in support of the Support Program for Christian families in Thrace who have a third child.
– Approved the program of the celebration of the holy memory of our Holy Father Photios the Great, Patriarch of Constantinople, Patron of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece (6-2-2024).
– He approved, following the proposal of the Synodal Committee on Christian Education and Youth, the holding of the 3rd Panhellenic Conference of Camp Executives of the Holy Metropolises of the Church of Greece.
– He was informed by the Synodal Committee on Heresies about the work and findings of the 3rd Pan-Orthodox Conference of Authorized Orthodox Churches and Holy Metropolises on Heresies and Parareligion issues, which took place in the Holy Metropolis of Piraeus, from 31 October to 2 November, on the subject: "Old Testament: Doubts, misinterpretations and polemics".
– He was informed about the work and findings of the 4th Monastic Congress, which was organized by the Holy Metropolis of Lefkada and Ithaca at the Holy Monastery of Faneromeni Lefkada, on the subject: "Orthodox Monasticism and the dangers of secularization".
– Approved the Revenue Budget – Financial year management expenses 2024 of the Panhellenic Holy Pilgrimage "PANAGIA SOUMELA".
– He approved, in view of the Christmas holidays, the additional financial support of the recently affected Holy Metropolises of Thessaly, by the amount of 100.000 euro.
During the recess of the Session on 13 December he gave his assurance, before the Blessed Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Mr. Jerome, the Most Theophilous Bishop of Salona, Mr. Ignatius.
also, after the end of the same Session, His Beatitude the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece welcomed second-year and postgraduate students of the Theological School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens to the Hall of Cultural Events of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, who attend the Common Law course, and after welcoming them, conversed with them. The students were accompanied by the Professor of the Theological School of EKPA., Σεβ. Metropolitan of Peristeri Mr. Gregory.
