In a historic ceremony and in an atmosphere of deep emotion, the opening of the Holy Church of Saint Nicholas and National Pilgrimage took place at Ground Zero in Manhattan, 21 years after its destruction by the 9/11 attacks.

Archbishop of America Elpidophoros said that this temple will adorn the ground zero for centuries to come and will prove the strength of man who can achieve anything when he has faith and works collectively.

Faithful and important personalities attended the opening, on a day of intense symbolism as the 4th of July coincides with American Independence Day, completed 100 years since the establishment of the Holy Archdiocese and the 46th Clergy Assembly is underway, for which Greek Orthodox clergy and hierarchs from all the states of America have gathered in New York.
