Mr.. Bartholomew, in an interview with the "Kurir" newspaper of Belgrade, made it clear that for the Fanari, Montenegro belongs to the jurisdiction of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) and assured that this position is not going to change. "For the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the only canonical Church in Montenegro is the diocese of Montenegro and Parathalasia of the Serbian Orthodox Church headed by Metropolitan Amfilochios. […] I repeat, we will never give autocephaly to the so-called Church of Montenegro", the Ecumenical Patriarch stated categorically.
Referring to the law recently passed by the Parliament of Montenegro on religious communities, which caused the SPC to react, he emphasized that he also sent a letter to the President of the Republic, Milo Djukanovic, asking him to prevent the passing of the law.
Commenting on the attempt of some Serbian bishops to cause a crisis in the relations of the Serbian church with the Fanari because of the issue of Ukraine, the Ecumenical Patriarch emphasized that "all the children of the mother Church are treated with affection and love even those who are ignorant".
