To the Venerable Vicars of the Holy Metropolis of Syros-Mykonos
Dear Fathers, Christ is Risen!
Out of concern, that you deposit in our shoulder bag these days, regarding what is being said and written about the bill "On Hostility" (anti-racist) we point out the following:
As our Country is going through a difficult situation, various anti-social phenomena also appear and expand, among which phenomena of racism and……. intolerance, the prudent and careful treatment of which by the state is essentially an act of self-preservation and survival of social peace and democracy.
And it is to the honor of the Greek Government that, alongside addressing the burning economic problems, reportedly discussing and intending to bring to consultation the so-called "Hospitality" law (anti-racist), the articles of which, although they are not precisely known, cause reactions.
Specifically, fears are expressed that, through the provisions of the bill it is possible to attempt to silence and criminalize the speech of the truth, which the Church corrects.
It is certain, Nevertheless, that such intentions do not characterize the members of the Government, many of which publicly acknowledge the great contribution of the Church to society.
Because, Well, we do not yet know the exact content of the law under discussion, while, on the contrary, we know the sensitivity of the State in matters, which also concern the Church, we're sure they will too, who will introduce the bill, and those, who will be invited to vote on it, they will not allow the Church's speech to be criminalized, who is devoted to every heresy and sin, but always loving and healing to every person, without discrimination, to whom today it offers abundant and with all its strength moral and material support.
Be sure that, as in similar cases in the past, the pastoral Church keeps vigil.
As your Bishop and Father, I assure you that if the fears are verified, of those who are protesting today, we will give our testimony for the justice of our Church with all our strength.
