Unified Easter Celebration / Pope Francis said today that the Roman Catholic Church is ready to accept a common date for the celebration of Easter, as this religious holiday falls on different dates, depending on the religious calendar used by each denomination.
Pope Francis repeats his appeal for a common celebration of Easter among the Churches
«The Catholic Church is willing to accept the date that everyone wants, a unity date", said the pontiff, out of text, during his sermon at the liturgy that concluded the week of prayer for Christian unity.
«In a god-sent way, Easter will be celebrated on the same day this year, with the Gregorian and Julian calendars, as is appropriate for this ecumenical anniversary", he added, referring to the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea held just before 1700 years.
"I repeat my plea that this coincidence serves as a reminder to all Christians to take a decisive step towards unity and a common date for Easter", concluded.
