Samson the Hospitable / The Hoteliers and Owners of Rooms for Rent of Mykonos celebrated this morning, Sunday 25 June 2023, the memory of their Patron, Saint Samson of the Hotel, in its Holy Metropolitan Church “of Great Panagia” Mykonos town, where the holy icon of the Saint is also kept, with the celebration of the Solemn Divine Liturgy with Artoklasia, during which the Most Reverend Protopresbyter and High Priest of the Temple officiated, Pi. Petros Maragos, supported by the Protopresbyter Fr. Georgios Kousathanas with the praying presence of Mykonian believers and vacationers.

Saint Samson was from Rome and flourished during the reign of Saint Justinian the Great. Being a physician, he came to Constantinople, where he so distinguished himself for his virtue and his love for the sick and the poor that Patriarch Menas ordained him priest. The Emperor Justinian was healed by him, and out of gratitude built him a large hospital, which was afterwards known as “The Hospice of Samson.” Saint Samson is one of the Holy Unmercenaries.

“The bearer of imitation, of God's mercies, of great usefulness, you spout faucets, Samson Priesthood, you because I imitate God, you shine sympathy, in the eyes of the afflicted, and those who suffer more, providing one each, ask for mercy”.
In thy patience thou hast won thy reward, O righteous Father. Thou didst persevere unceasingly in prayer; thou didst love the poor, and didst provide for them in all things. Wherefore, intercede with Christ our God, O blessed and godly-minded Samson, that our souls be saved.

We come together, praising thee with hymns and psalms, O righteous one, as an unrivalled physician and as an intercessor pleasing unto God; O divinely-wise Samson, ever having recourse to thy godly shrine for help, we glorify Christ Jesus, Who gave thee the grace to work thy cures.
Municipal Councilors participated in the Divine Liturgy, the President of the Apartments for Rent – Antonis Kousathanas Rooms, Hoteliers, Hotel employees and owners of rented rooms in whose honor the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mykonos established by 2011 the festival.
Before the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Most Reverend Protopresbyter Fr. Petros Maragos, High Priest Commissioner of Mykonos and Delos in his speech, thanked the congregants for their prayerful presence and spoke instructively about the life and work of the honored Saint.
Before the dismissal, the fragment of the Holy Relics of the Saint was venerated and the blessed bread and sweets were distributed to the many churchgoers.
