Church of Mykonos / Theotokos of the Life-Giving Spring
With special magnificence, in the joyful atmosphere of the resurrection period, the solemn vespers of Zoodochos Pigi was held, in the celebratory Holy Metropolitan Church of the same name in Chora Mykonos, on the Thursday of the Epiphany week, 20 April 2023.
The solemn vespers of the Feast of the Mother of God of Zoodochos Pigi, with pastry, was made the superior of the Panosiology Archimandrite and professor of the Holy Monastery of Panagia Tourliani p. In his speech, the Most Reverend Fr. Alexios Papadopoulos, referred to the great feast of the Life-giving Spring which is an epithet of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It came into use with the revelation of a holy spring at Valoukli in Constantinople by the Virgin to a soldier named Leo Thrax, who later became the Byzantine emperor Leo I (457-474).
Leo built the historical church Zoodochos Pigi of Baloukls at that spot, in which numerous miraculous cures have been performed over the centuries, through her mediation, making it one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Greek Orthodoxy. So, the term "Life-giving Source" became an epithet of the Holy Virgin and was represented in the art of iconography………
